Mr. Campbell chairs the Firm's dispute resolution group. His business litigation practice involves business disputes, securities, shareholder and other corporate governance litigation, insurance coverage issues, business torts and employment cases. In addition to his state and federal trial and appellate work, Mr. Campbell is experienced in all forms of alternative dispute resolution, including mediations, arbitrations (including NASD arbitrations) and judicial settlement conferences.

Mr. Campbell is listed in The Best Lawyers in America and in Chambers USA: America's Leading Lawyers for Business. He is a past member of the Board of Directors of the Nashville Bar Association and is a past chair of the Association's Federal Court Committee. He is also a Fellow of the Nashville and Tennessee Bar Foundations, a member of the Harry Phillips American Inn of Court and a member of the International Association of Defense Counsel. He is the author of an article published in the Tennessee Bar Journal entitled "Title I of the Americans With Disabilities Act: Opening the Workplace to Individuals With Disabilities."  

Mr. Campbell regularly represents financial firms, healthcare companies and other businesses, as well as individuals, in commercial disputes.  He also represents the largest medical professional liability insurer in Tennessee on coverage issues.  Representative cases include:

  • Matthews v. Storgion, 174 Fed. Appx. 980 (6th Cir. 2006) (liability of insurer for alleged torts of defense counsel)

  • McRedmond v. Estate of Marianelli, et al., 2006 Tenn. App. LEXIS (Tenn. Ct. App. 2006) (attorneys fees award in shareholder derivative case)

  • United States ex rel Tomlin v. Royco, et al., No. 3:02-1179 (M.D. Tenn. 2004), aff’d No. 05-5270 (6th Cir. 2006), perm. for cert. denied (U.S. Sup. Ct. 2006) (dismissal of qui tam action)

  • Allen v. Day, et al., 2006 Tenn. App. LEXIS 542 (Tenn. Ct. App. 2006) (applicability of Public Records Act to private entity)

  • Brandon v. J.C. Bradford & Co., L.L.C., et al., No. 01-C-1720 (Davidson Co. Cir. Ct. 2005) (class action alleging breach of fiduciary duty and fraud)

  • State Volunteer Mutual Insurance Company v. Clark, No. 3:03-0145 (M.D. Tenn. 2003) (dismissal of bad faith counterclaim)

  • UBS PaineWebber Inc. v. Robert W. Baird & Co., Inc., et al., No. 3:01-1516 (M.D. Tenn. 2002) (successful petition for injunctive relief pending NASD arbitration)

  • Williamson v. Hartmann Luggage Co., 34 F.Supp. 2d 1056 (M.D. Tenn. 1998) (summary judgment in employment discrimination case)

  • Bivins v. Hospital Corp. of America, 910 S.W.2d 441 (Tenn. App. 1995) (summary judgment in employment discrimination case)

  • Perry v. United Food & Commer.  Workers Dist. Unions 405 & 442 & Retail Food Employers’ Health and Welfare Trust Fund, 64 F.3d 238 (6th Cir. 1995)  (summary judgment in contract case arising under ERISA)

  • Brown-Forman Corp. v. Tennessee Alcoholic Beverage Commission, 883 F.2d 504 (6th Cir. 1989) (successful challenge to constitutionality of Tennessee’s affirmation statute)

  • Lonning v. Jim Walter Homes, Inc., 725 S.W.2d 682 (Tenn. Ct. App. 1986) (summary judgment in business fraud case)

Mr. Campbell is a graduate of Wake Forest University and the University of Mississippi School of Law, where he served on the editorial board of the Mississippi Law Journal.  Mr. Campbell served as law clerk to the Honorable John T. Nixon of the United States District Court for the Middle District of Tennessee.  He is admitted to practice in Tennessee and Mississippi, as well as the United States District Courts for the Middle, Eastern and Western Districts of Tennessee, the United States Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals and the United States Supreme Court.

Mr. Campbell has held leadership positions in several community and civic organizations, including service as president of the 300-member Exchange Club of Nashville.  He is the Tennessee coordinator for the Presidential Scholarship and Alumni-in-Admissions at Wake Forest University.
